Our history

Stud farm started developing from a comparatively small farm. We have first engaged in pig and bovine animal production but there were always place for a horse on the farm. We have gradually started to breed only horses. First we had cold-blooded heavy horses of two breeds, Norik and Posavec. We have afterwards been also engaged in breeding and training Hanoverian horses. Finally, more than 20 years ago the first Lipizzaner came in our stable. Three more Lipizzaner mares from Kras, the homeland of Lipizzaner horse, were brought to the stable. We have been searching for an elite Lipizzaner stallion for our mares. And we found one. Siglavy Gaeta II. We brought him on breeding exhibition and estimation. He was estimated as an elite breeding horse and had received the sire license. He confirmed his qualities on international breeding show in 2002 in Topolcianky, where he became international champion. We have than decided to breed only the Lipizzaner horses.

Our stud today

There are about 50 Lipizzaner horses at our stud today. They all have pedigrees, confirmed from LIF and ZRLS. There are 16 breeding mares and 2-3 sires so the herd gets younger with new foals every year. Young horses and breeding mares graze most of the time what is the best for their health and physical evolution.

Training and working with horses

We start with training at the age of 3,5 years. We always start working on the lounge and than after a few months we start riding them. They are all trained up to the dressage level A but more quality horses are additional trained in dressage or carriage driving. The horse, suitable for dressage should be lively, dynamic, should have expressive and energetic movements, it must cooperate with teacher and listen to him.

Riding for turists

We organize beginner and advanced riding courses, dressage riding hours, riding tours in the nature, riding trails for a few days, riding for tourists in manege ...It is possible to ride every day in any weather, because there is an riding hall. There is a large choice of riding trails. There are hectares of fields and forests around us, for example Šentjernej fields and Gorjanci hills. We also offer riding hours for families, children and complete beginners.

Surroundings and sights of region

The Carthusian monastery Pleterje: Pleterje Charterhouse is the only Carthusian monastery in Slovenia today. Nestled in the foothills of Gorjanci hills, her history is closely tied to Slovenia's own. The monastery was established in 1407 by Herman II. Carthusian monks produce honey, liquors, products of wax and clay, cheese and wine of very a good quality.

Open air museum: There is an open air museum in the vicinity of monastery Pleterje. It presents the homestead as it appears 200 years ago. Visitors can see old houses, stables, hayrack, they are also taken inside the buildings to see so called black kitchen, pantry .The owner also has domestic animals such as hens, geese, goats .
